for the curious, the pseudonym keryx (that's care-ICKS, not "CARRY-x") is the Greek singular of kerykes (my other -nym, which i'm not sure works as a non-collective-noun... hey, there aren't any ancient Greeks here to bitch), the family of priests responsible for introducing the mysteries of persephone. it's not a religion i partake of, but the idea of a sacred responsibility for loudness appeals to me. it's like being the MC of knowledge and change.
and because i am nothing if not a pretentious wank, the quote on my lj and friends page titles is this:
'a 'a i ka hula / waiho ka hilahila i ka hale
which gets translated as "dare to dance / leave embarassment at home" or "if you want to learn hula, you must put aside bashfulness" - meaning something akin to "get off your ass and on the floor". but in, you know, Hawai'ian. you won't learn anything until you're willing to be an idiot. also, dance is a metaphor for life, as always. |
